Holiday Advent Calendar

I love this Holiday Advent Calendar idea from Oh Happy Day! blog. I am definitely heading to Michael’s next week and stocking up on supplies to make this. Would be so fun to make an extra large version and hang it in the entryway or stairwell.

First Annual Friends’ Thanksgiving Dinner – success!

Our first annual Friends-giving was a HUGE success!! We each contributed at least one of our favorite dishes from each of our family’s thanksgiving dinners. Aka. every dish was amazingly delicious! Pres and I conquered making our first turkey, which I was super nervous about, but it actually turned out really well. (big sigh of relief) Thanks definitely go to Trader Joe’s kosher turkey and brining – two thumbs way up! We also made homemade gravy, rolls and fresh cranberries as well as my mom’s specialty, sweet potato souffle. Heaven in a dish, really. I will list the recipe below because it is actually super simple! Our friends rounded out the table by bringing homemade stuffing, creamed corn, twice baked potatoes, fresh salad, pie, pie and more pie, wine, wine and more wine! It was such a blast and everyone had so much fun that we are most definitely hosting the Second Annual Friendsgiving next year!

What is everyone doing for Thanksgiving this year?

First Annual Friends’ Thanksgiving Dinner

Doesn’t eating delicious food, laughing for hours, getting realllll full from said delicious food, being merry, having major food-coma and watching movies while sipping spiced cider and eating bomb pie with your friends sound ah-mazing?? Right, that’s what I thought! So excited for the 1st annual Friends Thanksgiving this Sunday!!

Let’s flock together!

Jucier’s Cleanse – 3 days down, NONE to go!

Let’s just say that after the third and final day of this juice cleanse, I have never been more excited in my entire life for a bowl of oatmeal and a simple turkey sandwich! Don’t get me wrong, the cleanse was great and I am feeling refreshed, light, not bloated and have great energy for not having caffeine the past three days. However, after yesterday’s hodge-podge juice of all veggies and not even apples to balance out the taste, I am more than ready to add some sustenance back into my life.

Despite day 3′s juice being the hardest to get through of the three days, I think the juice cleanse overall was not only great for my digestive system, but also a great challenge. It really tested me, especially when cravings creeped up. I am so happy I stuck with it and finished strong with one last lean meal of grilled chicken and steamed veggies, last night. I would definitely recommend this cleanse to anyone interested in giving their digestive track a break and a fresh start!

Juicer’s Cleanse – 2 days down, 1 to go!

2 days down, only 1 to go! I cannot believe 2 days are already done and only 1 day of the cleanse is left. Today’s juice was the infamous green drink filled with parsley, spinach and all sorts of delicious veggies. It was easy to drink throughout the day and a refreshing break from all the beets in yesterday’s juice. I’m feeling very cleansed and not bloated, which is such a nice feeling! Today definitely had its struggles though. It was the first day that I felt a little spacey. My mind definitely wasn’t working as quickly as I am used to, but I made it through the working day and headed straight home to a bowl of low sodium veggie soup, which really helped regain some mental clarity! Also, cravings kicked into high gear today. My office loves its treats and the break room was filled with bagels and fresh apple pie. C’mon, really?! I would’ve killed for a slice or a bagel crumb, but abstained by getting my 6th cup of the green drink and promptly walking out of the kitchen. Let’s hope day 3 brings less cravings, less mental fuzziness, and more delicious juice!

Juicer’s Cleanse – 1 day down, 2 to go!

Day 1 of the juice cleanse down, 2 to go! After having so much anxiety and fear going into this juice cleanse, I was pleasantly surprised when day 1 came and went fairly quickly. We started at 8:15AM and drank 8 ounces of juice every hour for 8 hours. Between drinking juice, tons of water and herbal tea, the day literally flew by. I never got to the point where I felt overly hungry, but I made sure to always drink the juice promptly at every hour to avoid hunger or cravings. I made lean grilled chicken and steamed veggies for dinner, which will hopefully give me a little extra energy for day 2. Rumor has it, day 2 is the toughest of the 3 days, so wish me and my coworkers luck!

Juicer’s Three Day Cleanse

After a fabulous summer and the holidays right around the corner (gah!), my coworkers and I thought it would be a good idea to do a cleanse. We ended up going with Juicer’s three-day cleanse! They are located in Solana Beach and prep 64 ounces of juice for each day of the 3-day cleanse. Each day, you drink eight ounces of juice every hour for eight hours, with lots of water in between. If needed, you can have a small portion of lean protein with veggies after 6pm. I’m not going to lie, I am definitely a little anxious and nervous about doing one, but I am so thankful and relieved that I have friends to do it with. We start bright and early Monday morning, so wish us luck!

A Very Gaucho Halloween

Let’s just say, we haven’t had a ridiculously fun Halloween with lots of friends visiting in… well, years! Probably not since the good ‘ole days at UCSB, where Halloween went on for 3… 4… 5 days. Anywhoooo, that’s a topic for another converstaion :)

Friday night, friends from out of town started trickling in. We hosted a pre party at our place, before heading out to a few local spots. The best costume of the night would have to go to my three girlfriends that were Three Blind Mice! It was so cute and hilarous to watch them stumbling around, pretending to be blind and tapping their canes all night. Pres added to his Tony Stark Iron Man costume and I was a nerd – bowtie, suspenders, Zelda game watch and all!

We were pretty tuckered out Saturday morning, but with more friends coming into town, we all put our game faces on and rallied! Eight of us were a muster of peacocks. Who knew a group of peacocks is called a muster? I always thought it was a flock of peacocks. Whoops. We ended up having a solid group of 20 people over for a pre party and then 10 of us went downtown to celebrate at the Hard Rock. Such a fun nigt! Even hailed an airport shuttle to take us all home later that night. Priceless.
